Making a run a race

Is there a way to make is clear a run is a race? Or does that come through from Strava if it’s tagged as a race?

And… not all parkruns are done as a race. I’d like to make it clear that sometimes I’m running with friends, or pacing.

Both work, and your own edit always wins.

Strava’s Race tag: if you tag an activity as a Race in Strava, that carries through and is treated as a strong signal here. Tagging it at upload time is the smoothest route. If you add the tag later, it still gets picked up, but it can take until the next sync rather than straight away.

Marking it yourself on the dashboard: turn on :pencil: Edit (top right on desktop, inline on mobile), then tap the pencil on the run. In that box you can:

  • tick or untick Race
  • tick or untick Parkrun
  • set Surface and Official distance
  • add free-text Notes (handy for “paced a friend”)
  • set Include in analytics to Auto, Always include, or Never include

Save, and your dashboard rebuilds with the change in roughly 15–25 minutes. An edit you make yourself is pinned, so the automatic detection won’t undo it later.

On parkruns: whether one counts as a race is judged on the effort, not on the course — so a social or pacing parkrun should stay a training session on its own. That check was improved on 13 September, after easy laps of a familiar race course were sometimes still being shown as races. If one still comes out wrong, untick Race on it and that sticks.
